Singer elected Haitian president
Pop singer Michel Martelly, 50, (see his nickname) has beaten former first lady Mirlande Manigat to become the next president of Haiti. (This rapper was shot while he campaigned for the job.) Fraud and scandal have plagued Haiti’s elections, and police have taken to the streets to prevent riots. The small island country continues to struggle to rebuild after last year’s devastating earthquake.
